There’s a popular saying that goes; “If you do not give your body time to rest, your body will choose a time for you and it will not be pleasant”. As a student, a business owner or a 9-5 employee how do you manage stress?
With just a few hours left in April, the Ziing family will be starting the month of May better informed on mental health issues, particularly if you attended our most recent webinar. Dr. Yewande Oshodi (Consultant Psychiatrist) graced us with her presence and gave a lecture on RESILIENCE SKILL FOR EMOTONAL MASTERY AND STRESS COPING

See below some of the major key points she gave on how to achieve emotional mastery and manage stress.
THE A-S-P-A FORMULA
Learning how to master your emotion is a skill anyone can build using the A-S-P-A formula. In other words, to master your emotions, you can take the following steps:
AWARENESS OF YOUR EMOTION: Become aware of your emotions by identifying what you feel at the moment. And be very honest about that assessment.
SENSE THE FEELINGS: Recognize and understand these emotions because they are your mind’s way of telling you what to do. It’s important to become curious about the message your emotions are sending you while you’re sensing them. Are they negative or positive messages? Take the time to fully comprehend this.
PUT IT INTO WORDS: Using written or spoken words, express how you feel. This will help you better appreciate the feelings you’re experiencing and the situations that surround them.
ACTION: Now you know how and why you feel the way you do, the next step is to take action. If it is a negative message you get from this emotional experience, take yourself out of circumstances that triggers this. And if it is a positive one, take advantage of it.
IT IS NOT STRESS THAT KILLS US; ITS OUR REACTION TO IT
Contrary to popular belief, our response to stress has a greater effect on our health than stress itself. What is your first response when you are nervous or in a difficult situation? Take the time to comprehend your present situation, as well as the source of your tension, and then proceed from there. Avoid adding to the tension of a difficult situation by being even more anxious about it.
SEEK HELP
Many events in our daily lives can trigger stress, such as passing an exam, meeting a deadline, or handling our finances. One way to better handle stress is to always seek assistance; find a reading partner to support you in studying, build a schedule to assist you in meeting deadlines, or use a finance buddy like the Ziing app to manage your finances. You are not weak if you seek assistance.
We will include more tips on how to develop resilience skills for emotional Mastery and dealing with stress during the month of May in an effort to raise mental health awareness. As you apply these tips to better manage your health, keep in mind that your finance buddy Ziing can always ease some of your stress by assisting you in better managing your finances.
